Foraging & Cooking with Foraged ingredients

Discover seasonal wild plants that can be foraged at this time of year. Martin will share his wealth of knowledge of what to eat (and what not to eat), ecology, folk law, food as medicine and lots more.

What to drink with what you eat
Thursday 25th April
In a world full of options it can be often hard to know where to start, join Josh Eggleton and Hayley Cutts as they help making the right choice a little easier.
The course will start with Hayley as she guides you through the basic principles of tasting wine before you delve into classic food and wine pairings.
As a group you will then be presented with descriptions for multiple wines and using your newfound knowledge you'll vote for what wine will accompany each course of a menu carefully designed by our very own Josh Eggleton. The menu will be 4 courses and feature a vegetable, fish, meat and sweet course. After each course we will reveal if you picked the same as Josh and Hayley.

Sushi Masterclass

Joe Fowler is our talented head chef at Root Bristol and former Pony & Trap Sous chef.
He found himself developing an interest in sushi in lockdown and developed his business Bushi a focus on sushi made with British Fish.
He joins us in the school to show you sushi techniques, how to cook sushi rice, veggie and fish options, shaping and presentation.

The land surrounding the Pony Chew Valley houses our no-dig beds, poly-tunnel and orchard. Tended to by the magnificent, ‘Tim the Gardener’, who grows and harvests the bounty of vegetables, herbs and fruit provided by the Pony Garden — This supplies The Pony Chew Valley with seasonal produce just hours after it has been picked.

Sunday lunch bookings require a deposit of £20 per person this includes a non-refundable fee of 60 pence per person.We have a 48 hour cancellation policy for Sunday lunch unfortunately bookings cancelled within that window will incur a £20 per person cancellation fee. No shows and last minute cancellations will incur a £20 cancellation fee charged to card on file.

To book with a voucher please use the form on the right we will get back to you to confirm your booking.
Vouchers are valid 12 months from 20th January 2023 if purchased before our opening date, or 12 months from date of purchase if bought after 20th January 2023.
Vouchers are non-refundable, cannot be transferred to Pony Chew Valley Cookery School, and cannot be exchanged for cash.
Pony Bistro vouchers within validity can be used at the Pony Chew Valley, Pony & Trap vouchers are no longer valid.
It’s almost 17 years since we opened the highly acclaimed Pony & Trap we’ve undergone an extensive refurbishment and reinvention of our beloved restaurant.
After being closed for the best part of 3 years, now we return as The Pony Chew Valley.
